If You See THIS In A Public Restroom. LEAVE Immediately. Then Call 911…
As we ask for more convenient, accessible technology, companies deliver. We may need to consider, for our personal awareness, that the $20 spy camera we bought to watch the new babysitter might get into the hands of those with less honorable intentions and placed in a harmless-looking object in a public place.
In three isolated incidents in Florida, this simple double hooked coat hanger was found all during the last week of May of 2016. These hidden coat hooks were found at Anne’s Beach, the Circle K, and Harry Harris Park – all in women’s restrooms. Here’s what some of them look like:
When you take a good look, you can see the little round area at the top – don’t just dismiss it as a nail hole – in this model, there’s a camera in that little hole. These hooks are easily located online sold as home security devices by various companies. Does this freak you out at all?
The camera in these hooks can record for 120 minutes on either continuous recording or motion-activated recording. They are terribly unassuming and look normal enough not to draw a suspicious eye from the public. It took a freak accident to discover one in a YMCA change room.
In 2011, one of these hook cameras was accidentally knocked over at a YMCA in Kansas. Upon knocking the hook out of the wall, it was easy to tell a camera was installed inside. The authorities commented on the situation:
Lt. Randy Reynolds of the Wichita Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit was noted by davidwolf.com as having said, “The device is not something that would stand out. They could be in changing rooms anywhere.” Know how to identify one of these contraptions the next time you use a public restroom or changing room:
If a simple plastic hook has a little hole in the top portion, you may have found one of these spy cameras. Some of the hooks also come with a button on the side to activate the motion detection sensor. If the hook is white, this will be easier to spot.
