Last summer, we learned that WWE superstar-turned-actor John Cena would be joining the cast of the Fast and Furious franchise for the sequel Fast & Furious 9, due in theaters May 22nd. In a series that just keeps getting more and more delightfully over-the-top, Cena is a perfect addition—he looks well-suited to the task of dodging explosions behind the wheel of a sportscar while driving down the side of the Burj Khalifa. Vin Diesel, who’s become the driving force behind the franchise, and newer addition Dwayne Johnson have had it out over who’s a “candy ass”; Michelle Rodriguez has threatened to go her own way if the writing for female characters remains so underwhelming; and we’re sure that, despite a lack of reports, Johnson and Jason Statham fought over the scalp balm while making Furious 7. But they’ve always managed to smooth things over in time to release another movie. Breaks came to a screeching halt and hearts broke all over the world when it was announced that the upcoming action movie and the ninth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, F9 would be delayed an entire year. Moved from the original release date of May 22 all the way to a safer date of April 2, 2021, lots of fans of the high-octane movie series are understandably disappointed. One person who has managed to find a silver lining to the situation though is Fast and Furious family member Tyrese Gibson, who took to social media to let everyone that the delay is for the best.
